Project

The project consists of a new 4-story apartment building, parking garage, drive areas, and underground storm water storage retention.

The Problem

The presence of loose soil in the upper twenty feet presented a challenge to use a shallow foundation system.  The combination of relatively high loads with loose soils would have induced intolerable settlement and low factors of safety for bearing capacity.

Earth Tech Solution

Earth Tech proposed a ground improvement program consisting of full displacement rigid inclusions in lieu of a costly deep pile foundation system.  Rigid Inclusions were embedded into the dense sand layer to transfer the structure loads through the loose soils zone.  Rigid Inclusions were used in conjunction with a load transfer platform (LTP).  Earth Tech designed and installed the ground improvement system.
