Project

The project consisted of a 7-story student housing building and 6-level parking garage for East Carolina University Students in Greenville.

The Problem

Layers of loose sand and soft sandy clay beneath the footprint of the proposed building and parking garage would lead to excessive settlement.

Earth Tech Solution

Earth Tech installed Aggregate Piers under the proposed foundations using the bottom-feed installation method to limit the settlement and increase the in-situ soil bearing capacity to 6,000 psf. This allowed the building to be supported on shallow foundations and eliminated a costly deep foundation system. A modulus test was performed to verify design assumptions and Aggregate Pier performance.
