The access platform at the Historic Tampa Union Station required upgrades to make it compliant with the Americans with Disabilities Act (ADA). The Station services AMTRAK’s Silver Star line that operates from New York City to Miami.

The Problem

The geotechnical investigation found very loose soils under the proposed platform that could generate excessive settlement.

Earth Tech Solution

Due to tight access constraints and frequent interruptions with train traffic, support of the new platform was designed on helical piles which could be installed with smaller equipment. Earth Tech installed around 400 helical piles to depths up to twenty-five feet. A load test was performed to verify helical pile capacity.
